Letter from teacher
Dear Parent/Guardian,
I’d like to take this opportunity to express my enthusiasm for this up coming school year in Physical Education. It has always been a wonderful experience teaching
the students at PPSEL. I try to enhance the development of the “whole” person in my classes, so it is enjoyable watching the students grow during the year. Part of my philosophy is to incorporate all dimensions of the wholesome approach, not just physical, but mental, social, and emotional elements. Hopefully, every student will discover ample activities that he/she will enjoy now and in their lifetime. Also, I want stress and instill
the importance of physical activity and how it aids in the personal wellness. Again, by offering a variety of activities in class this will encourage their healthy viewpoint on physical activity.
Throughout the school year the students will experience a variety of team sports, individual sports, group initiatives, and personal fitness. The younger classes will still practice locomotor movements, spatial awareness, rhythm, and fine-motor skills in certain activities. Since I would like to stress wellness more this year in gym, I plan to incorporate a cardio program of “Run Around the World” for all classes. Also, sometime during the month of February have a “Jump Rope for Heart” event for all ages at school. In addition to gym classes, I try to assist classroom teachers in their search of off-campus activities. These types may include ropes courses, rock-climbing, rappelling, mountain biking and other activities that involve the expeditionary theme.
I’d like to share some Physical Education guidelines that every student should meet daily in gym. Students must be responsible and respectful. Also, children must wear tied tennis shoes in order to participate in the gym activity (safety concern). Another policy is to have students bring a note from home if they are unable to do gym that day due to an injury. If the injury is lasting more than 2 consecutive days of phy-ed then a medical note is required from physician.
Please feel free at anytime to discuss concerns or questions about your son/daughter’s progress in physical education. I hope every child has a positive and rewarding year in gym class.
Warmly,
Ms. Kay
