Letter from teacher
Welcome to the Media Center! My Name is Terry Sanderson. I live in Colorado Springs and have one child currently enrolled in PPSEL and one that graduated from PPSEL several years ago. This is my 5th year with the school. My first year, I was a Para Professional for the 3rd and 4th grade. The year after that, I was given the amazing opportunity to construct a library and computer lab for the school. I have been overseeing the Media center ever since.
Lots of exciting things happen in the media center such as phonics activities, conducting research, typing, Microsoft Office skills, work on each classroom expedition and most importantly lots of reading! The kids are encouraged to check out books weekly that they can take home or to class.
New to the media center this year is a Smart Board! So far it has been a huge success with all the classes. The Smart Board is an interactive white board that is used for many different learning adventures. You can conduct web quests, teach power point, word and excel. Video and DVD capabilities allow us to tie into classroom expeditions. It is a fabulous teaching tool for our school.
Please feel free to stop in at any time, to learn more about what your kids are excited about in the media center. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your children. I am looking forward to a great year!
Class Information
Activities your children will be participating in include reading and phonic activities, conducting research, typing, Microsoft Office skills, and most importantly lots of reading! The kids are encouraged to check out books weekly to take to class or home to read. We incorporate classroom expeditions into the media schedule.
Class Rules
The same rules that are applied in the classrooms are expected and applied in the media center.
Calendar
We evaluate our kids three times a year with a company called Northwest Evaluation Association. The exams are known as Measure of Academic Progress or (MAP). The evaluations record the progress of our children as well as informing our teachers of growth over time. The evaluations are conducted at the beginning or the school year, again before Winter Break and a final at the end of the school year.
