Dear Middle School Parents and Guardians,
My name is Dean Jaeger, I am the lead middle school teacher, and I teach 6-8 History and Reading. It is with great pleasure to welcome you and your child to the 2010-2011 school year. I would first like to start off by welcoming Ms. Kathleen Fredrick to the middle school team. We are pleased to have Ms. Fredrick on board as our new math teacher. If you are unable to meet all of the middle school teachers this evening, I encourage you to do so in the next few weeks. This will give you the best chance to set up a direct line of communication with each teacher.
At the beginning of every school year, the middle school has a camping trip. This year, we had planned to partner with Outward Bound for our camping trip. Due to some mid-summer changes on their staff and program requirements, we are no longer partnering with Outward Bound. Since this was an unexpected change to our plans, we have not finalized plans for a new trip yet. We apologize for any inconveniences with this change. If we do finalize a new trip, it will most likely take place at the end of August.
We will be doing electives in the middle school again this year. The elective system will be similar to last year where the students will be able to select most of their electives as long as their state requirements are met for the standards. The first few days of school, we will be having general electives and your child will go to these general electives with their crew. This way they are able to bond with their crew and hear all of the elective choices from the elective teachers before making a decision. We will also have the opportunity for students to be teacher or office assistants during an elective hour.
Returning parents, please have your child wear their uniforms on Thursday (a solid polo shirt will work only if old uniforms do not fit). Friday will be a non-uniform day like usual. New parents will have a few weeks to get uniforms for your child. New students will be excused from the uniform policy until they are able to get uniforms. Uniforms shirts and sweatshirts need to be visible at all times and cannot be covered with a non-uniform sweatshirt. Students will be sent to the office to borrow a uniform shirt if they do not come with one to school.
