Letter from teacher
Dear Parents,
First of all I would like to state that I am so excited to begin the school year. I can not wait to begin/ introduce school as an exciting, creative, and fun learning environment to all of my little Einsteins. I am also very exciting to meet all of you and to create a great parent/teacher relationship. I want you all to feel free to come to me for any questions, concerns, or updates regarding your child. Parent night is right around the corner.
Please start to think of one hope and dream that you wish for your child to complete this Kindergarten year. We will display these in the classroom and then they will be placed in your child's porfolio.
The first week of school we will tap into the basics and begin learning routines. The children and I will discuss guidlines, rules, procedures, and discipline. We will create rules to follow as a crew. The children and I will always work as a crew, where I am the guide, but the exploration we will complete as a whole. I set high expectations and proceed as the ability increases. Your child will be pushed as a class and as an individual. I would love to meet with each of you and create a personal goal that your child and I can work on together. As we continue to understand the daily schedule and structure of school, academics will be continuously integrated until we have actual content time, such as a math or writing period.
I look forward to meeting and working with each and everyone of you. I will see you on Parent Night!!!
Ms. Sherry
Class Information
Welcome to Ms. Sherry's class page! Here are a few updates on what is happening in our classroom.
Since the school year has just started we are continuing to practice class rules and expectations. We have created a list of rules as a crew on how our behavior is suppose to be when in a school environment. Since many of the kids have not had previous school experience, this is taking extra practice and reminders.
Academically we have begun working on letters . Everyday we work on a new letter. We are working on craftsmanship and taking our time to show our best work. For additional practice, the children take home a small book and have to circle the letter that we have worked on during the day. If the book is returned the next day, the kids are able to choose a stamp. Before they learn an additional letter, we do a review as a class, to ensure they are recognizing the letter and understand the correct sound the letter makes.
In addition to letters, we are also working on numbers. Again we are working on craftsmanship as well as one to one correspondance, the value of a number, identifying, sorting, sequencing, and numerical placements. We have slowly integrated basic patterns using only two variables.
In our Expedition we are continuing our immersion and building background knowledge on FARMS. The kids looked at various items that come from farms and had to group them in ways they thought they should be. As a group we discussed the different pictures and realized that they are all grouped together. We will be participating in upcoming fieldwork, reading various farm books, and adding new information into our farm dictionary.
