School Updates July 22

Dear PPSEL Family,

I wanted to update and remind you of a few items as the new school year approaches.  Some of these announcements will be new, and some are simply reminders.
Meet Your Teacher Night
This event is August 5th and is an Open House format from 5:30-7.  Families will learn classroom/teacher assignments, hear from the teacher regarding classroom procedures, and parents can also bring in their school supplies, if they choose. In addition to getting classroom information, there will tables with information on specific topics.
Some of the tables will include:
  • Boy Scouts
  • Parent Teacher Organization
  • Girl Scouts
  • I9 Sports – Youth Sports Program
  • PPSEL Nursing
  • Stars Kids Before and After School Program
  • D49 Transportation

COVID Updates
PPSEL will be following the D49 policy on masks in schools. Students will not be required to wear masks, but are encouraged to make decisions that are best for themselves and their family. For detailed information on that policy, you can read it here: https://www.d49.org/Page/8477. To read more about the guidelines and recommendations from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, this article is a great resource: https://co.chalkbeat.org/2021/7/21/22586804/colorado-school-covid-guidance-masks-quarantine
PPSEL recognizes that masks and vaccines are topics that have many varying and strong opinions. Our goal is to respect individuals and the decisions that they make regarding their choices on these topics.
As you might imagine, schools will shift as new recommendations and requirements come into play.
New Family Orientation
This is August 5th at 4:00 and is online.  This will be a chance for new families to meet leadership and learn about important processes at PPSEL.  This will be a virtual event.  We have previously had this happen at Meet Your Teacher Night, but it was overwhelming for new families, so we will spend an hour or less virtually this year so families can focus solely on their child’s classroom(s) and teacher(s) at Meet Your Teacher Night. School leadership will also have a space at Meet Your Teacher night as well for specific questions. Please plan on joining at using this Zoom link:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88524453647?pwd=cGEwTFFSeGZGdUcxUFZBT2hpTTdidz09
*For those families that want to get a head start, there are forms under the parent tab on our website that you can begin filling out.

Uniform Sale/Swap
On August 3rd and 4th, from 10-2, there will be a used uniform sale/swap at PPSEL.  Parents can purchase gently used uniform shirts for $1.  Returning parents can also swap a gently used shirt for a different one. Supplies in certain sizes are very limited and we may limit the number of shirts available for each family.
School Supplies
School Supply lists can be accessed here: https://www.ppsel.org/school-supplies/
If you need assistance in obtaining supplies, please contact me and the school will do whatever we can to help!
First Day of School
