  • Pikes Peak School of Expeditionary Learning (PPSEL) does not discriminate on the basis of disability, race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, ancestry, need for special education services, or any other grounds prohibited by law. PPSEL serves students with disabilities and English Learners and provides services to students as required by state and federal law.

PPSEL will enroll students without regard to disability status. Following a selection by the enrollment process, the student will be offered a seat and enrolled. All school records, including the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504s will be requested for review after enrollment. If there are concerns that FAPE cannot be provided based on the current IEP, the PPSEL will collaborate with D49 to convene an IEP team meeting with representatives from the charter school and parents in order to make any adjustments to the IEP or to the school’s program that the IEP team determines necessary to ensure that the student is educated in his/her LRE. It is D49’s responsibility as the Administrative Unit, via the IEP team, to determine an appropriate placement. In rare instances where an IEP team determines that the charter school is not the least restrictive environment for a student to receive FAPE, D49 shall take responsibility for the student and determine his/her placement if that student resides in D49. Students who reside outside of D49 boundaries will be referred back to their home district. Students are conditionally enrolled, so if IEP documentation is not disclosed or reviewed at the time of enrollment, this would be significant and may necessitate the school and D49 Special Education team to revisit the enrollment. For questions regarding the admission and enrollment of students with disabilities in charter schools, you may contact School District 49 or Don Knapp, Executive Director of Pikes Peak School of Expeditionary Learning at don.knapp@ppsel.org.
