I am Claire Garcia and I am very excited to be teaching 3rd and 4th grade at PPSEL. I graduated from the University of Colorado- Colorado Springs with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and Environmental Studies and Elementary Education. Before coming to PPSEL in 2016 as an interventionist, I taught 4th grade in Greeley.

I am a Colorado Springs native and I love spending time outside in the mountains hiking, camping, and running. I also enjoy cooking, gardening, reading, and spending time with my family and friends. My husband and I enjoy traveling during school breaks so we can learn about different cultures around the world.

I am looking forward to a great year!

The beginning of our Fall 2017 expedition begins as a mystery piece.  As students learn about each mystery piece they will discover that they are diving into the history of how Colorado came to be. Students start with the exploration off with trappers, traders and mountain men.  During case study two, students learn about mining and how Colorado became a state.  We end our expedition bringing it to our community and learn about the history of Colorado Springs and government.

During college, I taught at before-and-after school programs, worked as a camp counselor, and volunteered in several elementary schools throughout Colorado Springs.
